HR states for human resources and as an HR consultant, you are generally called in to advise companies on a wide range of issues involving its workforce. HR consultants either individually or through a consulting firm, may be contracted to address particular issues and remain on retainer until the issues are sorted. As a HR consultant you must be skilful in IT, accounting, sales, marketing, finance and human resource management. Most HR consultants are both educated and experienced HR generalists and even specialists. This is due to this job role needing a deep understanding of elements such as labor laws and equal opportunity employment etc.
Job responsibilities of a HR consultant
As a HR consultant, you will have many responsibilities. These include:
- Giving advice to management on the administration of both HR policies and procedures.
- Serve as an internal consultant by analysing a company’s current HR programs and recommending solutions
- Develop a HR policy and procedure and afterwards, revise and implement it
- Ensure all HR programs and services are in compliance with established policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws and regulations
- Prepare new and maintain previous reports related to specific HR projects
- Assist others with the development and coordination of recommended changes
- Develop methods for compiling and analysing data for reports and special projects
- Conducting audits of HR activities. This is to ensure compliance
- Presenting training sessions related to specific HR programs
